MEAGAN GRANDALL AND KENDRA COX OF LEMOLO 2012
When I first started doing interviews I simply asked the subjects to send me a picture that I could use, but eventually I bought a nice camera and wanted each article to be accompanied by an original photograph, one that would help the article stand out and not look like the other dozen with the same press shot. This was the first time I took a picture for an article and was so nervous about doing so that I mentioned it literally right before Kendra had to rush out the door after our interview. For such a rush job I could not have been happier with the way this picture turned out, one time I saw the picture and momentarily forgot I’d taken it and gave silent praise to the photographer. Over the years I’ve boiled what I think makes this shot work down to a few things, the teal wall, the soft Summer sunlight from the window and that brown leather couch. So often I’m scrambling to find something meaningful for my subject to stand in front of and here out of necessity it came out perfect, if I could I would have every artist I interview sit on this couch for pictures. This picture was taken in July of 2012 just after the release of Lemolo’s wonderful debut album The Kaleidoscope, a year later Kendra would leave the band to go work on other projects, so now this picture holds a little more meaning.
Also I wish I’d bought that picture above Meagan and Kendra conveniently labeled $250, I loved it.
